Decision-making under uncertainty for commodities and financial markets

September 15 – September 25, 2024

We are very happy to announce the upcoming EURO Summer Institute on Decision-making under uncertainty for commodities and financial markets to be held in Ischia, Naples (Italy). The date for the institute is September 15 - 25, 2024.

The institute focuses on all aspects of decision making under uncertainty and applications in commodities and financial markets. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Further Information

The Institute is supported by two EWGs: the Euro Working Group on Stochastic Optimization (EWGSO) and the Euro Working Group on Commodities and Financial Modelling (EWGCFM).

The purpose of the EWGSO is to promote the development and application of Stochastic optimization theory, models, methods, analysis, and software tools and encourage the exchange of information among practitioners and scholars. Stochastic optimization (SO) is an active research area having important real-world applications and close links with other branches of Operational Research. SO research focuses on formulating and solving stochastic optimization problems, i.e., optimization problems whose parameters are random variables. The fact that every strategic decision is made in the presence of uncertainty is clear evidence of the practical importance of SO.

The EWGCFM aims to develop financial models that help to solve problems faced by financial decision-makers in the firm, intermediaries, and the investment community. Strategic financing, asset allocation, and risk management are crucial economic and financial topics. Understanding, managing, and monitoring the uncertainty occurring in the financial world requires optimization techniques, stochastic modeling, and the artificial intelligence approach. Recent regulatory requirements, innovations, availability of big data, the Fintech revolution, and the sustainability challenge are all representing topics the Group deals with.

Special Issue

We are very pleased to say that there will be a special issue of Annals of Operational Research (AOR) covering the topics of the ESI and that selected papers of the Institute will be eligible for submission. Guest Editors: Rita L. D’Ecclesia, Audrius Kabašinskas and Alois Pichler. More information are available here: https://resource-cms.springernature.com/springer-cms/rest/v1/content/26834024/data/v1
